JUNE Newsletter
The new "Soft Plus" program is now underway, and based on the numbers, it would seem to be a very popular venue. Soft Plus, is just a little bit slower and more "vanilla" than our lively Plus Club Dances. It is an excellent way to help solidify the calls for the new club members (Class of 2006) and a chance for those who have not been dancing for awhile, to get back into the activities that make square dancing such fun. the SBS have a program that when two events are offered the same evening ... if you attend the first event ... there is no additional charge for the second event. Many new club members have been taking advantage of that offer and attended the Soft Plus Dance last Thursday ... and stayed to dance the Club Plus Dance. Great opportunity for additional floor time ... no extra gas expenditure either!
E-Mail reminders. Due to the crazy dancing schedule in June, Bonnie has sent out an e-mail showing the current week plus the next week's schedule. She will do that each week in June.
LOOKING BACK
May was terrific ...
LOOKING AHEAD
At the end of this newsletter will be an overview of the Summer Dancing Schedule. June is a much calmer month. But June 21st - 24th will find about 10 couples dancing at the National Square Dancing Convention in San Antonio. Thanks to Rich & Kay Tornay for handling the coordination of this event. A number of the attendees will be first timers ... including 3 new dancers.
June 29th (Thursday) will be our last regular night of dancing until August 1st. July is our traditional "dark" month with the exception of the "Brush Up" workshop just before the Show Low Festival. But because we are trying to offer as much "Soft Plus" dancing as we can, we will hold two "Soft Plus" dances in July (2nd & 16th).
Speaking of the Show Low Festival (July 21st - 23rd ) there will be 82 dancers in our famous, or is it our "infamous" teal blue shirts. What a beautiful sight at the workshops to have all of the SBS's all wearing the club golf & Tee shirts. This will be an OUTSTANDING event as Mike Seastrom is the caller. The Sleep Inn in Show Low has been super about helping accommodate all of the dancers wishing to stay there. Reminder: If you have not sent your registration form in, please do so soon. If you can't find your form - see Bonnie. Thanks to Jim Cloer, Harry Driskill & Regina Pang for arranging a golf outing for 29 golfers on Friday morning at 10:30. A Big Thank You to Ray & Shirley Morris for arranging for our dinner on Friday afternoon. That is quite a task finding a location that can accommodate 82 dancers!
We are delighted to announce that we will be holding our "Soft Plus" dances each Sunday night, 7:00 p.m. at the MountainView Ballroom during August. The Fall Sunday night dances are still being negotiated. We will keep you posted.
Regular Schedule Returns. Our standard Tuesday night workshops (5:00 - Soft Plus; 7:00 Plus) begin again on August 1st and the Thursday night 7:00 Club Plus Dance will ramp up on August 3rd. Anytime we do not have the floor available on Sunday night, the Soft Plus dance will be held on Thursday at 5:00.
Please note that the popular "Tweener" classes will begin on September 21st at 5:00. The Calendar will indicate which calls will be reviewed each of the 8 sessions. "Tweeners" is for anyone who might not have danced for awhile; folks that have not been able to dance all summer; any dancer wanting floor time, or to "Brush Up" their skills, or just having fun. A different group of calls will be presented each Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:00. Tweeners will end with the lesson on October 17th. Just in time for "Give Us A Whirl" on October 19th.
If you have anyone that you would like to receive an invitation to "Give Us A Whirl, An Introduction to Square Dancing", a free night to introduce folks to the wonderful world of square dancing, that will be held at 7:00 on October 19th, please let Bonnie know and she will arrange for them to receive a letter. So far 79 folks have received invitations.
